Module Reworking

Peter gave me some scrap foam he had in the garage about a year ago that has been cut and attached with carpenters glue.

Took this photo yesterday of Peter Mumby's module with a bit of Styrofoam added to the back for support. Now to add leftover face board to the rear to clean up the look. The jigsaw is used to trim the scene as I go along. A Masonite end cap will be made too...George Dutka

Module Being Reworked

All the details have been removed and a bit of track taken out before being cut to size. The backdrop is removed also and will not be used. The front skirting has been removed and cut to size for reuse.

I spent a bit of time yesterday altering Peter Mumby's module that connects to mine. I want it to be one foot wide (it is 18" at the moment) to fit on my wall. I began by removing all the trees, details and a bit of trackage. I then ran it through my table saw from the top and then the bottom. Areas that it did not cut through my jig saw took care if it. I will shore up the cut area with a strip of Styrofoam shortly. 

The layout will be all modules with most being done with a foam base. More on how it is going shortly. It was an end of the day project and time ran out...George Dutka

Fairbanks on my Module.

I took some photos of my Fairbanks flag stop on my 6 foot module. It will find a home once a complete my shelf style layout along one wall of my basement...George Dutka  

On my module the Fairbanks flag stop fits in well.

The finished model is resting on the MR article I used to inspire me through this build.

The trim although spray can painted green got a coating of PanPastel green to better reflect the fading of the green.

The walls also got a coat of PanPastel grey. I used two tones to get a faded effect.

The model is complete. I added a grey tarpaper roof to my model.

Maplewood Flag Stop

I noticed that on the SR&RL Facebook page the group raised the Maplewood flag stop off the ground a couple of weekend ago. Looks better and should last a lot longer too...George Dutka

Fairbanks, Maine Flagstop

The walls are made from styrene but I used wood for the corner trim and supports.

Ready to be assembled

Ready for paint. Styrene roof is made. The window and doors are from Grandt Line parts package.

I used some wood trim to finish off the rear window as I seen in a photo I have and posted back in the summer.

Camo Coat green is applied on parts and Rust-Oleum primer is used on walls.

The sign in the MR article on the prototype photo was about the right size. So I photocopied it and used blue chalk around the lettering to get the coloring of the sign.
