There has been a bit of talk on the Maine On2 Yahoo site awhile back regarding the station and area at Phillips, Maine. During the NNGC a few years back I took the bus trip to the SR&RL in Phillips. We all had a train ride, photo run-by and a great tour of the facility. One thing missing was a visit to the Phillips station which I have never visited. I thought that would be a part of the tour. I guess another visit will be added to my list of places to see in Maine. Here is some comments regarding the station area posted by Bob Bennett that I found really interesting...George Dutka
"The depot is still there, in reasonably good condition. The remaining portion of the car shop is used as a meeting venue and was once the gymnasium for Phillips High School. When my uncle, Paul Whittemore retired as Principal of the HS in the early 1960's, after 42 years, the ceremony and following recepion was held in the gym. I remember attending. I think most of the roundhouse was still there at that point. For the past few years a train show has been held in the old gym late September."
